
Meru County Secretary and Head of Public Service, Dr.Kiambi Atheru, on behalf of H.E. Governor Bishop Kawira Mwangaza has today officiated the Meru County Energy Park Project Workshop, to evaluate the status, challenges and the next course of action towards its realization. 230 MW of energy will be produced; 200 MW from wind and 30 MW from solar. Consisting of 32 wind turbines and solar panels, the project will revolutionize the economy of Meru by availing reliable energy for industry use.
Meru County Investment and Development Corporation, led by the Ag Managing Director, Kenneth Ruteere, is partnering with Hewani Energy formerly Wind lab to fast track the project by pursuing speedy issuance of tittle deeds by end of June, after which the registration of lands lease and the contractor will move to the site.
The local community will not only benefit by compensation for their land, but also from boreholes dug by the contractor. The CSR projects will be done in future to give back to the community. This community empowerment is in line with the Governor’s manifesto to uplift the living standard of Meru people.
